Rudolf Barshai
and Sviatoslav Richter
Sviatoslav Richter is, probably, the most accomplished pianist of the 20th Century. He lived a long and immensely productive artistic life, being one of the first and few Soviet musicians to be allowed to travel abroad. His career closely associated with Rudolf Barshai – they have played and recorded all over the world; Richter was the soloist at the Moscow Chamber Orchestra’s 1000-Th performance in 1968 and the last Orchestral performance and recording of this Great Master was under the direction of Rudolf Barshai. Laurel Record made it available through its release in April of 1998. It was also Richter’s only recordings of Mozart’s Piano Concerti No. 1, 5 and 18.
